Deck hand Bill Schleire of Sistersville, W.Va. hands change to Denny Crawford of Paden City, W. Va. The ferry is utilized most commonly by commuters who live on one side of the river but need to drive to their jobs on the other side. When the ferry is closed in the winter months, locals are forced to detour to bridges in neighboring counties. For some, this means adding a great deal of time to their morning travels.

After flipping the ferry service sign on coast of Fly, Ohio, Deck Hand Albert Gram walks toward the vessel during the mid-day break in service. The ferry is suspended during the slowest hours for traffic from 9AM to 3PM weekdays.
